| Yesterday I found out that I passed the bar!!! I will probably be getting sworn in on October 30 (depending on the VA Supreme Court's schedule).
As much as I would like to become a shark or a bloodsucker, my current job as a law clerk means that I cannot actually practice law outside of being a law clerk. For some reason the Powers That Be seem to think there could be a conflict of interest in someone who works for the court doing things that may come before the court...
My celebration should last at least 24 hours, then I will need to think about sobering up. WOO HOO!!! | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |
| This week has been nothing but a series of Ups and Downs...
Earlier this week, I was offered a judicial law clerk position in Chesterfield County (the second or third busiest court in VA, Fairfax being the busiest). I was beyond thrilled, to say the least. A judicial law clerk works hand-in-hand with a judge, and if you want to be a trial attorney (which I do), it is one of those things you just gotta do.
Then came Tuesday. I think we have already covered Tuesday...
Wednesday was eerily calm.
Thursday and Friday I was focused on a case that we are working on. Unfortunately, all the work I did on Thursday was effectively undone on Friday morning.
Today, I went to the Gold Cup, an annual steeplechase held in VA. It was a blast. I got to hang out with friend and show the boy off.
I am glad this week is over, because it can't seem to decide if it wants to be good or bad. It started on a good note and ended on a good note...but damn, the middle sucked. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Lately I have been suffering from insomnia. For once, this turned out to be a good thing. Late last night, I was flipping through the channels looking for something to watch, when I stumbled across something odd in my On-Demand: The pilot episodes for 3 new NBC Shows...Bionic Woman, Life, and Chuck.
Naturally I watched them
No real spoilers here, just giving my impressions.
Bionic Woman - Looks good, I will give it another shot. Katee Sackhoff plays an awesome psycho chick.
Life - Had a couple of humorous parts, but overall it was kinda weak. I am not sure it will last very long. It seemed like a bad knock-off of Monk (quirky guy solving crimes using quirky methods).
Chuck - Much better than I expected. I was not aware that Adam Baldwin (Jane from Firefly/Serenity) was going to be in it...and he appears to be playing a smarter version of Jane (shoot first ask questions later). | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| Its a rarity when I actually post something to my LJ, and it is even more rare when I actually post something substantive.
So far, this year is looking pretty good for me. Got the baby on the way in 3 months, almost done with Law School, life is good. Just when I thought things couldn't get much better, yesterday hit.
Yes kids, I said better...
I got offered a position as the Production Editor of the Law Review. For those of you who do not know, the Law Review is usually a law school's most prestigious publication. And the Production Editor is more or less the 3rd in command.
But wait, there's more! Yesterday, I was also elected Vice Justice of the GMU Moot Court.
Now what does all of this mean? Well, my resume got a hell of a lot better for one thing.
It also means that I will be a bit busy this year, but it is all worth it and I brought it all on myself, so I can't really complain... | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| You know, all my law school classes should be like my pretrial practice class. The class is taught by 2 practicing attorneys who are extremely easy going, thus leading to conversations like these.
Professor 1: "We had a person who missed the last 6 weeks of class last semester, and we felt their grade had to reflect that fact." Professor 2: "Yeah, so we decided to give him a B"
Professor 1: "We will have several little 1-2 page writing assignments throughout the semester. Usually they will be due the next week." Professor 2: "But if you don't finish the assignment, just make sure you try to get it in to us by the end of the semester." Professor 1: "Mostly so that we can give you feedback on the quality of your work, cause it really has no effect on your grade." | comments: Leave a comment |
| Yes, I am still alive
No, Law School has not completely removed my soul...yet
Since it has been forever since I updated, I will give a brief run down of my recent happenings:
( Cut so that I don't bore people with Law School jibber-jabber )
On a completely unrelated note, AsFarAsYouKnow has hopped on the Flickr bandwagon. Nothing up there yet, but I am sure Suz and I will both be adding pictures from time to time...
Off to bed and up early tomorrow to go back to work in the salt mines! | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
